In the name of Allah , The Most Compassionate , The Most Merciful. All praise is to Allah , prayer and peace on Prophet Muhammad , Messenger of Allah , his family and all his companions.Thank to Allah for His blessings. Here ,I like to share with all of my sisters in Islam some important information regarding the true religion.

Allah SWT tells us:( I created the jinns and human beings only that they may worship Me.) 51 : 56

As we know, a Muslim woman who is learning about her religion finds out that the menstrual period and the postpartum bleeding (nifas) are times for her to leave off certain acts of worship such as formal prayer and fasting , as well as sexual relations with her husband. So, it means that these are the time which a woman’s faith and worship are in jeopardy as the rewards and benefits of ablution (wudhu’) and prayer are missing at these time. When one is not able to perform ablution and prayers , the small sins that accumulate are not being washed away or erased. If women sit back and `take a vacation’ from their worship during their menses and after giving birth , they are giving Satan easy access to their minds and hearts and that is why some women feel cut off and far away from Allah.

I expect that all of us know what are forbidden for women during menstruation and postpartum bleeding but maybe not all of us know what are permitted for women during these periods. As I said before , once a woman menses, it does not mean she has to take a vacation from her worship to Allah because there are many things she can do to make her close to Allah. The first thing that she can do once her mense flows is du‘a: Bismillahi ‘ala kulli haalin , Wa a’uzubillahi min kulli zanbin..Then , she can spend all of her days in doing other acts of worship apart from prayer ,until the bleeding stop such as :

1. Dhikr -Subhanallah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha ill Allah, Allahuakbar , etc.
Abu Hurayrah narrated that The Messenger of Allah said : “There are two phrases that are easy on the tongue but are heavy on the scales (that weight good deeds on the Day of Judgement) and are loved by The Most Merciful , Glorified be Allah, and He is the Praise; Glorified be Allah, the Owner of Majesty.” (Subhanallahi wa bihamdih and Subhanallahil ‘adheem)
2. Du’a (supplication) - she can ask from Allah what is good in this world and in the Hereafter, for du’a is one of the best acts of worship. The Prophet said : “Du’a is a weapon of a Muslim.”
3. Istighfar (seeking for forgiveness)
4. Reading or reciting Qur’an - according to Ibn Taymiyah, then, the founders of all of the four major schools of thought, Imam Abu Haneefah, Imam Syafi’I, Imam Malik and Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, are of the opinion that women who are menstruating or having postpartum bleeding may or should read and recite the Qur’an. Imam Syafi’i, however, holds the view that women in such conditions are permitted to read while moving her tongue, but silently (nobody can hear her). She may read as much as she needs to for purposes of study or teaching. She can also recite the verses for blessing and protection (like Ayat al-Kursi and etc), and also in order to not forget what she has memorized. We know from the Prophet’s hadith and from the opinions of schoolars that to intentionally forget what has been memorized and understood of the verses of Qur’an is a SIN.
5. Qiyamullail - The Messenger of Allah said : “Allah descends to the lowest heaven every night during the last third of the night and says, `Who will call on Me so that I may respond to him, Who is asking something of Me so I may give it to him, Who is turning to Me so I may turn to him in acceptance of it’ .”
Allah will still reward(by Allah’s will) women for waking up to seek Allah’s forgiveness, remembering Allah with their tongues and fingers.
6. When she hears the call to prayer, she should respond with words that our Prophet taught us to say
7. Give in charity (sadaqah)

Once women know the facts about which actions are allowed and forbidden during menses, they should prepare themselves for the condition by increasing reading, reciting and memorizing the Qur’an and remembrance of Allah. These are the ways they can get close to Allah. With Allah is the Guidance - may Allah guide us all.
